Location

The village of Salakos , is built at the foot of Mt Prophetes Elias at an altitude of 290 meters and it is located 39 km far from the city of Rhodes.

It occupies an area of 47.400 acres and is inhabited by 581 people. Both the well – known spring “Nymph”, located in this area, and the valley constitute a very important living – area for a particular species of butterfly “Kallimorpha” the same species we can find at the Valley of butterflies in the village of Theologos .

The village was named after a landowner “Salakos” who was a sovereign in this area. In this village one can see almost everywhere foundations, Greek tombs and Byzantine churches – all in ruins mainly as a cause of the passing of time.
